I had planned this work for a long time, wanting to depict a scene where an elderly man received a haircut from a younger man, who could be his son. It tells a story of familial love, of legacy, and of the ties that bond us together as humans sharing a lifetime. In a way, it is also an ode to the countless people who provide services to us which we cannot live without, but are often left unappreciated.
This was my first time painting on wood and thus I chose to leave parts of the panel exposed. The towels hanging overhead were also left in the original acrylic underpainting as the flat texture helped it blend in with the background.
