odaiba summer (2020)

A small alla-prima self portrait based on a selfie I took during my stay as a student in the Odaiba area of Tokyo. While painting this I was, for a moment, transported back to my old dorm room by the sea, and was delighted to remember many small details of my time there. I began to appreciate the value of candidly capturing moments of mundane life - though mostly seen as vain, most of our lives are made up of seemingly unimportant instances which also deserve to be celebrated.
