Created for the Halloween-themed show "A Nightmare on Roncesvalles II" at Northern Contemporary Gallery, the work uses the guise of a gimmicky and somewhat creepy fortune teller machine to allude to the impact of smart phones and social media algorithms. Unlike robot mediums, algorithms can actively track our attention and interests, using this data to generate revenue - this is symbolized by the figure in the "crystal ball". The title is a double-entendre with "teller" referring both to the fortune teller and also a bank teller, a tongue-in-cheek way of initiating a deeper conversation of how technology controls our future.
In an effort to present the illusion of a diorama, the copper-coloured text was written backwards and directly onto the inner surface of the glass, casting a shadow on the canvas to create a floating effect.
